Difference between luv and love><?

i have a freiend i am really into but i know he only likes me as a close friend and sowhen he started telling me that he loves me on texting i figured he actrually did love me but didnt want anything out of it. so i texted him and asked him whic h way he loved me and he said between hed take a bullet for me and hed do what he could to make me happy. so then i asked him if he loved me as a sister or more and he said he didnt know what it felt like to love someone as a sister. so i rephrased that anmd asked if he loved me as a friend or more and he said more. but he also said that he loves all his friends in that way so what is going on here? he is confusing me.
