Do you think faulty goods should be marked down in a thrift/secondhand store?
Today at a thrift store, I purchased a tunic. As I was waiting to be served I noticed that there were holes in the neckline and in one pocket; so I thought it not unreasonable to request a discount. I have done this many times before & have always received a positive response - generally (because they just want to make a sale) they are happy to let me have the items for 50% off the marked price. But today the answer was a defensive 'no......I can't do anything about the price, I'm not the pricing lady....she's out to lunch....the price is what it is, take it or leave it.' I didn't believe the yadda-yadda about this retail istant's impotence, so I just took it, but remain unhappy with this store's 'policy'. Sure, secondhand clothes are seldom perfect, but the item was faulty - holes in clothing require the purchase of matching thread and time to mend. It's the first time I've had such a request turned down - and the last time I'll be patronising that store (particularly as I later discovered they are not a charity, unlike the other thrift stores I shop at). (Incidentally, the store is in new zealand, and I normally shop in australia - don't know if that makes any difference) What do others think?
