Can anyone tell me the name of a science fiction novel with a computer that has a God complex?

My husband told me about a novel that he thought was written in the 70s and is part of a trilogy. It is about a computer that thinks it is God and destroys the Earth. It is not the Terminator series and not by Arthur C. Clarke. Any ideas?
