Did my friend just come out to me?!?

So I had lunch with my ex boyfriend today and he asked me if I thought him and a friend of his were gay. Really randomly. We just broke up and had been together for 5 years, so of course I said no. And he said "ok, I was just wondering b/c some of our friends thought we were." Now, him and Nic did live together for a year. And they go out drinking and to games and stuff together. Normal boy stuff. We had a couple 3 somes with another one of his male friends when we were together. And once when he was drunk, he told me he was gay. And a lot of our mutual friends have made comments over the past 5 years wondering if he was gay... I always thought they were just kidding, but now... im not so sure. We always had a normal life... But... maybe he's gay. I'm fine with it if he is, I'm just kinda surprised. The weird thing is, as soon as he asked me if I thought he was gay, he propositioned me to ask if we could be friends w/ benefits. I'm wondering if he's trying to convince himself he's not gay. So... any opinions?
